How do I play?

Guess the hidden word one letter at a time on the stone keyboard. Every right letter fills in its spaces; every wrong one puts your explorer in more danger. Six wrong letters and the round is lost. Find the whole word first to win, and watch how each world ends.

On the menu, pick a difficulty (Easy to Extreme), a category and a world, then tap the big button.

What are the ways to play?

• Classic: one word after another from your category and difficulty.
• Daily Word: the same word for everyone each day, easy on Monday and hardest on Friday. One go a day.
• Blitz: as many words as you can in 90 seconds.
• Pass & Play: two players on one device set three words for each other.
• Online: set words for a friend anywhere through Game Center.

How does Pass & Play work on iPhone Duo?

1. Tap Pass & Play. Player 1 types a word, or taps Pick for Me, then Ready.
2. Close the phone and hand it to Player 2. Opening it starts their round.
3. Take turns until each of you has set three words. The one with fewer misses wins.

If you'd rather not fold, the button on each hand-off screen works too. With the phone closed at a hand-off, tap Play on This Screen to carry on on the outer screen.

How does Pass & Play work on other iPhones and iPads?

The same way, minus the folding. A hand-off screen hides the word between turns: pass the device over, and the other player taps the button to start their round.

Why was my word not accepted?

Words you type for another player have to be real dictionary words, and a few words aren't allowed at all, so every game stays friendly. Try another word, or tap Pick for Me.

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No. There's no sign-in, and everything except online play works offline.

What are my stats and the leaderboards?

Tap Stats & Leaderboards on the menu. In Classic, every word you find adds to your run: 100 points for each difficulty level, plus 20 for every stone still standing. A run ends at the first word you lose, or a word you leave unfinished. Your best run is your high score, and the most words in a row is your longest streak.

If you're signed in to Game Center, your high score, longest streak, best Blitz score and longest Daily Word streak go on the leaderboards. Switch between Friends and Everyone to see how you rank.

How do I play online?

Online play uses Apple's Game Center. Sign in under Settings > Game Center, then tap Online and New Game to invite a friend or be matched with another player. You'll be told when it's your turn.

What's free?

The Lava Temple world and every way to play, every difficulty and every category. The other worlds can be unlocked one at a time, or all together with the All Worlds Pass, which also includes every new world we add in updates. They're one-time purchases, not subscriptions.

You can also earn the first three for free: a Classic run of 20 words in a row on Medium or harder opens Thin Ice, on Hard or harder Quicksand, and on Difficult or harder Sky High. Your progress is under Stats & Leaderboards. Newer worlds come with the All Worlds Pass or on their own.

How do I restore my purchases?

If you bought a world or the All Worlds Pass and it isn't unlocked, for example on a new device or after reinstalling:

1. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy it.
2. Open Hangman Fold, tap a locked world, then its unlock button, and tap Restore Purchases.

You're never charged again for restoring. Family Sharing works too. Apple handles all payments, so for refunds or billing questions use reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I turn the sound off?

Tap the speaker button at the top of the screen. It remembers your choice. The game also follows your device's Silent mode: when your iPhone is set to silent, the sound stays quiet even if sound is on in the game.

I can't hear anything. What should I check?

• The speaker button shows sound on, not crossed out.
• Your device isn't in Silent mode, and the volume is up.

Hangman Fold plays alongside your music or podcasts instead of stopping them, so keep an eye on the volume when both are playing.
