How do I play?

Each side hides five ships on a 10×10 grid: Carrier (5 squares), Dreadnought (4), Frigate (3), Submarine (3) and Corvette (2). Take turns firing at squares in the enemy waters. You'll see a hit or a miss, and when every square of a ship is hit, it sinks. Sink the whole enemy fleet first to win.

On the home screen, pick an opponent (Cadet, Captain or Admiral) and tap Play vs Computer. Place your ships, or tap Shuffle for a random layout, then tap Start Battle.

How does Pass & Play work on iPhone Duo?

1. Tap Pass & Play with a Friend. Player 1 places a fleet and taps Fleet Ready.
2. Close the phone and hand it to Player 2. Opening it starts their setup.
3. Once both fleets are placed, Player 1 fires first. After every shot the boards disappear: close the phone and pass it over. Opening it starts the other player's turn and shows them the shot that just landed on their fleet.

Close the phone in the middle of a turn and the boards hide until it's opened again. If you'd rather not fold, the Start button on each hand-off screen works too.

How does Pass & Play work on other iPhones and iPads?

The same way, minus the folding. After each setup and each shot, a hand-off screen hides both boards. Pass the device to the other player, and they tap Start (for example, Start as Player 2) to begin their turn. No peeking while it changes hands.

Can I play with the iPhone Duo closed?

Yes. Start with the phone closed and Fold & Fire plays on the outer screen. At a Pass & Play hand-off with the phone closed, tap Play on This Screen to carry on there. (Closing an open phone in the middle of a Pass & Play turn hides the boards instead, so nobody sees the wrong fleet.)

Do I need an account or an internet connection?

No. There's no sign-in, and the whole game works offline.

Can I play online?

Not at the moment. You can play against the computer, or with a friend on one device with Pass & Play.

How do I restore my purchase?

The Admiral's Pack is an optional one-time purchase. If you bought it and it isn't unlocked, for example on a new device or after reinstalling:

1. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy it.
2. Open Fold & Fire, go to where the Admiral's Pack is offered and tap Restore Purchases.

You're never charged again for restoring. Apple handles all payments, so for refunds or billing questions use reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I turn the sound off?

Tap the speaker button on the home screen. It remembers your choice. The game also follows your device's Silent mode: when your iPhone is set to silent (with the Ring/Silent switch or the Action button), the sound effects stay quiet even if sound is on in the game. Haptics follow your device's own vibration and haptics settings.

I can't hear anything. What should I check?

• The speaker button on the home screen shows sound on, not crossed out.
• Your device isn't in Silent mode, and the volume is up.

Fold & Fire plays alongside your music or podcasts instead of stopping them, so keep an eye on the volume when both are playing.

Does Fold & Fire work with VoiceOver?

Yes. Every square on both grids is read out with its position and what's there: a ship, a hit, a miss, or not fired at yet. During setup, each ship tells you its name and length, and you can pick it up and turn it, or use Shuffle. The ship lists say which ships are afloat, damaged or sunk, and the result screen reads out your shots, hits and accuracy.
